Modern Cottage Remodel
A crumbling cottage is given new life
with this renovation and addition that connects it to the outdoors.
With the addition of another floor we could now completely reorganize the house and add a brand new, open plan living area. The goal was to create a more functional layout as well as connect the house to the outdoors as much as possible.
We maintained the fireplace as the central pillar of the house. We also made an effort to keep as many original architectural elements as possible, like the fireplace, the beams, and the shiplap. These, combined with the concrete, full wall windows, and the striking black paneled walls create a contrast that tells a story in and of itself.
The kitchen was the most important part of the remodel. They wanted a large island for casual dining, access to the outdoors, and a primarily minimalist design.
The upstairs bedrooms remained in their original places and were upgraded to a cleaner more functional design. Each bedroom features a desk, closet, and lower storage.
